Musical Production and Arrangement

My goal as arranger and producer is to let the artist’s voice and artistic personality come through above all else. Songs are my thing so I always make the vocalist and their interpretation the focal point. Since I prefer organic, live performances over sequenced, work-station sounding arrangements, the results I get, at least to me, sound musical, real, edgy and inspired.

One of my favorite independent artists is Tommy Homonym. He records his melodies and lyrics a cappella, into his smart phone. I then transcribe the melody and create the harmonization, arrangement and production. Here are some examples of our work together. Mixing and mastering by Dave Darlington, the Grammy Award-winning engineer at Bass Hit Studios, NYC.

In January, 2017, over the course of a single weekend in Rio de Janeiro, we recorded my wife, Débora’s, all-original album Um Samba ao Contrário. It garnered her international recognition and a Best Song Award from the U.S.A. Songwriter’s Competition. This beautiful album features some of Brazil’s finest young musicians, including Rafael Barrata (drums), Luíz Barcelos (Bandolin), Rogerio Gaetano (7-string violon) and Guto Wirti (bass).

Débora’s first, self-titled CD, highlights the wide variety of styles and influences that make up her vast repertoire and features the legendary jazz composer and tenor sax musician, Benny Golson on two tracks: So Many Stars and Inuitil Paisagem (Useless Landscape).
